X2D II 100C

DJI, which now owns Hasselblad, has ushered in a new X2D. This new version of the camera features several significant improvements, making it the most advanced medium-format mirrorless camera available to date. Here are some of the key enhancements:

  • Lidar improved continuous autofocus.
  • End-to-end, true-to-life dynamic range.
  • 10-stop five-axis stabilization!
  • One terabyte of internal storage
  • 3.6-inch wide colour gamut OLED 1000nit HDR LCD
  • Simplified menu system.
  • There have also been significant improvements in the Phocus Mobile app.

The camera is still smaller than its direct competitor, the Fujifilm GFX100, and unlike the Fujifilm lenses, its lenses have a built-in leaf shutter. The EVF is a reasonable 5.76 million dots, but does not reach the 9.44 million found in some Sony cameras. However, the LCD screen on the back of the camera is stunning in size and quality. The camera, to my mind, is designed for portraiture and landscape, and as such, a three frames per second rate is perfect. It does not have any video capacity, but I believe this is appropriate for a camera that will be used primarily for landscape or portrait photography, which will result in a less cluttered menu system.

In-depth Analysis

The following videos do a good job of covering the striking innovations that have been included in this camera, its best uses, some comparisons with competing products and the new zoom lens.

Their Lenses

All the lenses for the Hasselblad mirrorless cameras have leaf shutters built into them, and they come in three primary types: the Exclusive series “E”, where the primary focus is quality; the Versitial series “V”, which strikes a balance between performance and portability; and the Portable series, designed to be lightweight and portable. Then there appear to be other, far larger lenses without a series designation. These can be found in the image below, which compares the two with the Fujifilm GFX 100, its competition.

Canadian Pricing

This morning, following the announcement, the pricing for the new X2D appears to be $1,500 lower than that of the previous version.
